If there is one thing ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘ has going for it, it is the mystique is has been building around itself as the release date grows ever closer and we have yet to see a trailer, a teaser, or even photos of the cast, or really any details about what the film is going to be about. Sure, most likely the lack of details being released is most likely due to the drama behind the scenes and the fact that Ron Howard had to step in as the replacement director and handle massive reshoots at the last minute, which included a few casting changes when original actors could not return for the reshoots. Even now the man is most likely buried in the edit bay trying to piece together the film with his team as fast as humanly possible. But in his favor, we now have a ‘Star Wars’ movie coming out in 5 months shrouded in secrecy about a fan-favorite character, with a cast that people are very excited about and a well-known Hollywood director who has made some of the biggest hits in the past 30 years. There is a lot to be excited about, even if we know little to nothing about what kind of movie ‘Solo’ is going to be.

Fortunately for us, one of the new replacement actors recently gave us a little taste of what we kind of movie this might be, which does make sense for a movie about Han Solo. According to a statement Paul Bettany gave Total Film:

“It’s Han Solo’s story, and of course his story would be a caper. On one level it’s a gangster movie. That’s really interesting, because it’s within the canon but really different. It’s f**king Han Solo!”

For me, I hear gangster in a ‘Star Wars’ movie and I instantly think of the Hutts, Jabba in particular since we know he and Han have past dealings. There’s a chance there is a whole slew of gangsters that Han and Chewie will deal with over the course of the film, especially since we know Han is a known smuggler/criminal (and with the Empire in charge, who wouldn’t be?).

What are your thoughts on the idea of ‘Solo’ being more of a gangster movie (on top of rumors of it potentially being a heist film, a comedy, and a space western)? Share your theories in the comments below!
