wonder woman

As was predicted, Warner Brothers has officially launched a ‘For your consideration…’ campaign for ‘Wonder Woman’ with an industry webpage.  It is mainly expected that the hit summer flick’s best chances will be for Best Picture and Best Director for Patty Jenkins.  Though the primary goal is consideration by the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences, a.k.a. the Academy Awards or Oscars, obviously it would be great to be acknowledged by any major outlets including the Golden Globes, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which precedes and often predicts the Oscars.

While big budget flicks like this often score in the technical categories, Warner Brothers is angling for recognition in some of the more high profile areas including Best Actress for Gal Gadot.  Perhaps to cover their bases, they are also suggesting nominations for Best Supporting Actress (for Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen and Elena Anaya) and Best Supporting Actor (for Chris Pine, David Thewlis, Danny Huston and Ewen Bremner).  Of course, these are just ideas put forth by Warner Brothers in hopes that a voting body will acknowledge these performances.  They’re all– including Gadot– long-shots.  (Hedging its bets, WB is also pushing Wright for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Blade Runner 2049’.)

A much more likely nomination would come for Jenkins.  ‘Wonder Woman’ is now the highest-grossing film ever directed by a female.  Only one other woman has won the Best Director Oscar– Katheryn Bigelow for ‘The Hurt Locker’ in 2010.

In addition, Warner Brothers is submitting in the technical categories:

Warner Brothers is mounting campaigns for three additional films, ‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’.  For ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Dunkirk’, pushing for nods in the same categories as ‘Wonder Woman’ so WW may have a tough fight against more cerebral fare.  But we’ll see.

Now, everything is in the hands of the voters.  What do you think of Warner Brothers and ‘Wonder Woman”s chances?
