Empire Magazine has shared a descriptive scene from ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ that reveals we’ll be seeing a return of the Weapon X Project but will we see Wolverine? We’re all quite familiar with the fact that Hugh Jackman is soon to be done popping his claws forever so questions have risen as to if he’ll be making an appearance in the next X-Men installment and on top of that, what the future of the character could look like without Jackman.

Today we’re getting a few hints at what is likely to come. I should, of course, warn you that there be spoilers ahead!

First up, the magazine has described an upcoming scene from the film which will include Mystique, Beast, Quicksilver, and Moira MacTagger:

The quartet have been kidnapped by army twonk William Stryker following a cataclysmic event at the X-Mansion, and wake up in a holding cell. On a balcony above them, Stryker taunts his prisoners, demanding to know the whereabouts of Magneto.

Sure sounds like with Stryker involved that there is a direct Weapon X tie-in. How about Logan? Fuller answers if Wolverine factors in at all by saying:

“As a central character, he didn’t fit into this particular story.”

If I were a betting man I would bet that we’re going to have a cameo from Marvel’s favorite mutant. He might not be a “central” character but it does sound like he would make an appearance. With only ‘Wolverine: Old Man Logan’ left in his contract for a full on feature film it would seem like a waste to not include him while they can. Of course, we’ve already heard that reshoots including Jackman have occurred so unless the scene was cut it seems as if Wolverine would have a part to play.

Like Jackman, Fuller’s future on the franchise has been unknown we already know that he’ll be working on ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea‘ next and as for the X-Men:

“Abandoning the franchise is not something I think about. But I could not roll into another X-Men movie tomorrow. And I hope not to. I hope to take a break.”

Who would we see him pit against the X-Men after his upcoming break from the franchise? Not quite the villain you would expect but he would want to use:

I’d love to use Proteus somehow,” the filmmaker teased. “There’s a lot visually you could do with a character like that.

As Fox isn’t about to just shelve one of their most lucrative franchises while Singer works on other projects it will be interesting to see if whoever takes over next can keep the tone that audiences are clearly enjoying and hopefully not see something along the likes of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ or ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ pop up. I think we can all hope that they’ve learned their lessons by this point.
