At a recent appearance at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference, Disney chief Bob Iger excitedly spoke on the future of the “Star Wars” franchise, especially in regards to the spin-off films that are not part of the main Skywalker storyline being told in Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. As for ‘Rogue One‘ he basically just spelled out the logline of the film, while he dropped what could be perceived (for anyone not paying attention) as big news in regards to the Han Solo origin story project. In his words:

“Rogue One … is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star. It takes place right before George Lucas‘s first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called ‘The New Hope.’

We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy. And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there will possibly more thereafter.”

While fans have long suspected that Chewie would be present in the Han Solo origin project, this is the first confirmation we have heard that Chewie is involved, and not just involved I might add, as it will also he his origin story, which is great as long as we do not return to Kashyyyk for another Life Day debacle (if you have no idea what I’m talking about, go to Youtube and check out the ‘Star Wars Christmas Special’.) In the expanded universe, the origins of Han and Chewie do go hand in hand, so I am hoping that they borrow elements of the story from the expanded universe novels, including the part where they meet when Han saves Chewie from enslavement at the hands of the Imperials, which helps explain Chewie’s devotion to his old friend.

What are your thoughts on the news? Excited to see more of Chewie in the ‘Han Solo’ movie? Share your opinions in the comments below!
