Felicity Jones has already been cast as the female lead in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’, the spin-off movie based on the massively successful ‘Star Wars’ franchise, due to open next winter.  Now it looks as if Disney/Lucasfilms may have found two male actors to star alongside her.

The first name rumored to be under consideration is Riz Ahmed, who starred as Rick opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the dark thriller ‘Nightcrawler’.  The film, though bleak, found its audience and was a sizable hit considering its low budget, with Ahmed holding his own opposite Gyllenhaal.

Also rumored to be in the mix is Sam Claflin, who hasn’t headlined a movie yet, but has appeared in some pretty high profile franchise films like ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ and the fourth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, but his highest profile role has been as tribute Finnick Odair in the ‘Hunger Games’ movies.

It is not known what characters these two might be playing in ‘Rogue One’, but the buzz is that Ahmed is being looked at to play a Rebel soldier, just like Jones.

Director Gareth Edwards indicated that this film is a “heist movie” featuring Rebels attempting to steal the plans for the under-construction Death Star (the first one), in this movie set before ‘Episode IV: A New Hope’.  These Rebels will have to rely on their own whits and skills as this is a galaxy that no longer has The Force to protect it.

Edwards, speaking at Star Wars Celebration stated, “It comes down to a group of individuals that don’t have magic powers, that have to bring hope to the galaxy… It’s about the fact that god’s not coming to save us, and we’re on our own.”

‘Rogue One’ is described as an ensemble so expect more casting news as it emerges.  What do you think?  Are you intrigued by a movie set within the ‘Star Wars’ universe but without the big name characters?
