After 14 years, the ‘Jurassic’ franchise is being revisited next summer with the release of ‘Jurassic World’ directed by Colin Trevorrow, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson and Irrfan Khan.

But one name that won’t be joining the cast is Sam Neill, who starred in the first and third movies as Doctor Alan Grant.  When he was recently asked about whether he’d be willing to put in an appearance, he responded:

“Look, you never say no. I think there’s a whole new cast and a whole new look at things, and I think that’s great. As I said, I’d never say no, but I wish them… well, I’m sure it’s going to be great, but they don’t need me.”

As of right now, no details about the movie are known.  Were Alan Grant to pop up on screen, he would immediately steal the thunder of the new cast members and since the hope is that ‘Jurassic World‘ will kick off an all new series, I’m sure the producers want to focus on these characters and their direction.  Unfortunately, Sam Neill– while an accomplished actor– never became a huge leading man after ‘Jurassic Park’ and is a bit older, so he probably isn’t the right choice to anchor a new action franchise.  On the other hand, Chris Pratt will be headlining ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ which could make him a serious movie star.

What do you think?  Are you upset that Doctor Alan Grant won’t return to help save the world from rampaging dinosaurs?  What would you like to see in the new movie?  (One word: Pterodactyls.)
