We’ve known since Comic-Con that the next ‘The Avengers‘ film would be ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’. What no one has really known until now (unless you were there) was how exactly it was announced.

Sure we’ve all seen the header art, but how about the exact teaser that Joss Whedon showed to Comic-Con attendees with the casts’ voiceovers and Iron Man’s helmet being crushed and rearranged into the shape of Ultron? It was a mystery for most of us.

UNTIL NOW!

So that is how Joss Whedon showed off what his next ‘Avengers’ baby was going to be and the fanboy in me squee’ed in geekdom. The look, the tone, everything worked in a way to bring us a great teaser considering no footage has been filmed yet.

With Ultron confirmed as the big baddy and James Spader (Joss’s #1 choice) being cast as him, it’s going to mix things up a bit on what we’ll see in the film. With no Hank Pym being involved in Ultron’s creation, one has to wonder if it is going to be true that Tony Stark creates Ultron? It really feels that way (especially with his helmet morphing into Ultron’s head). Will it in fact be a case of Jarvis turning into Ultron? Or will these two AI’s end up being at odds with one another?

Clearly Thanos will be out of the movie with this new villain in place and so will Loki. We also know that Agent Coulson won’t make an appearance either (unless it’s at the end). Besides Coulson is a little tied up with his ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D‘.

With so many people out of the mix, it’s a good thing they are adding in The Scarlet Witch (who is getting a new look) and her brother Quicksilver.

There are no real hints on the plot quite yet. We know it won’t be based on the recent Age of Ultron mini-event and that there will be changes to his character. Past that? Well, even Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans had no idea of what was coming aside that filming would begin in March 2014.

‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ assembles in theaters on May 1, 2015.
