With the success of the ‘X-Men’ films spawning a slew of sequels and spin offs, one has to wonder what’s up next in Fox’s sleeve for the franchise. With mainly mutants in their court there are only so many directions they can go without becoming redundant. However, they may have just let the cat out of the bag on what their next ‘X-Men’ project will be. Previously both ‘X-Men: First Class’ and ‘Days of Future Past‘ were unofficially announced early when it was found that Fox picked up the domains for each of the films. Well it looks like Fox is following their MO when it was discovered recently that they picked up the domain  X-ForceMovie.com.

Gee, I wonder what announcement we’re going to see in our near future?

We didn’t have to wait long as THR broke the story that Jeff Wadlow has been tapped to write the adaptation of ‘X-Force’ and is eyeing to direct the film. Wadlow, who wrote and directed the upcoming film ‘Kick Ass 2’, is currently getting prepared for the upcoming press junket while at the same time doing damage control over Jim Carrey’s denouncement of the film due to its excessive violence. Long time ‘X-Men’ franchise producer, Lauren Shuler Donner, will also be on board to produce ‘X-Force’.

As ‘Days of Future Past’ involves time travel , it may be used as a lead in for X-Force. While there have been many iterations of the team over the years, the primary character involved in X-Force almost always is Cable. Cable formed the group initially and is the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey’s clone who traveled back in time to prevent the rise of Apocalypse who is one of the X-Men’s most feared enemies.

The group he forms are with a more violent band of mutants who believe in militaristic action for the betterment of Mutantkind. They still believe in Xavier’s dream, they just don’t think everything can be worked out by talking. While this isn’t the only version of the team (there have been 5 variants at this point, I believe) it is the one that has stood out as the main team for the longest.

Could this be a hint we’ll see a version of Cable in ‘Days of Future Past’? I wouldn’t put it past Bryan Singer to include it as a lead in. I hope he’s in there and he’s teased at this year’s Comic-Con. We’ll find out soon enough!

Fans of X-Force, which iteration of the team do you think the film will portray? As Cable will ‘most likely’ be involved, who would you love to see play him? Who would you love to see on the team and who should be the big baddy they are trying to take down?
