Deadpool upside down

We just learned that ‘John Wick’ co-director David Leitch was the front runner to take over directing duties on ‘Deadpool 2’ from the departing Tim Miller.  And that remains true.  Leitch does seem to be the leading candidate, but he’s not the only one.

20th Century Fox is still meeting with potential helmers including Drew Goddard (left) and Magnus Martens.

Frequent Joss Whedon collaborator Goddard co-wrote and directed ‘The Cabin In The Woods’.  He also executive produced and co-wrote ‘Daredevil’ on Netflix and also served as showrunner for Season One.

He wrote the screenplay adaptation for ‘The Martian’ and was originally expected to direct, but dropped out to take over ‘Sinister Six’ for Sony, until that movie was scrapped after the poor performance of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.  Sony considered him as a candidate for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, but that job ultimately went to Jon Watts.

magnus-martensMagnus Martens (right) directed the Norwegian film ‘Jackpot’ which is being adapted for the US market, but with Will Gluck helming and Mila Kunis set to star.

He has directed TV series such as ‘Power’, ’12 Monkeys’ and ‘Banshee’, but perhaps more importantly comic book fare ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Luke Cage’.

So both have experience managing Marvel properties, but are they prepared for the wonky world of ‘Deadpool’?  Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Deadpool 2’ already has a release date of March 2, 2018.  The film will introduce comic book favorites Cable and Domino, with Kyle Chandler reportedly being eyed to play Cable.  (Which is rumored to be the reason that Tim Miller left the project.)

What director do you think should tackle ‘Deadpool 2’?
