Last year, we learned that Christopher Nolan’s trusty cinematographer Wally Pfister would be making his directorial debut with ‘Transcendence’, a sci-fi story about a scientist transferring his consciousness into a computer. Early on, Johnny Depp was attached to the film, but now we learn who else will inhabit the cast along with him.

The first time director has been deep into production for a while now and we have our first look at what’s going on with a brand new behind the scenes featurette. In the video below, you can see some set footage, some pre-production layouts, and a message from Depp’s co-star Rebecca Hall:

While we learned some details about the film shortly after it was announced, producer Dan Mintz gave the LA Times a bit more insight into what we can expect:

“Without giving away too much, Transcendence is about that moment when human consciousness and the insanely fast rise of computing power collide. It pulls from the idea of singularity to tell a truly meaningful story that is more ‘science reality’ than science fiction. This is something that is likely to happen in our lifetimes and that makes it a story everyone can get into.”

In addition to Depp and Hall, Pfister has lined up some impressive names for his first film. Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins Jr., Kate Mara, Paul Bettany, and Morgan Freeman are all involved, so ‘Transcendence’ is likely to get some heads turning when it’s released on April 18, 2014.
