When I first got into ‘Firefly’, a friend tried to describe the Joss Whedon series to me as a space western following a ship filled with Han Solos. Like that’s a bad thing? Being a huge ‘Star Wars’ fan, that sounded great to me. I started watching, I loved the show, and the rest is history. But now one of those Han Solos is actually going to be THE Han Solo!

Though Harrison Ford, the original Han Solo, is rumored to be a part of J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, it looks as if someone new may step into the role to play a younger version of the character in one of the rumored stand-alone films written by Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinsberg.

According to a report on Deadline, Nathan Fillion, best known as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in ‘Firefly’ and Captain Hammer in ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog’, has been cast as the captain of the Millennium Falcon in the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spinoff  which will follow the fan favorite character before he runs into the Skywalkers in the original trilogy. The report hints that we might be seeing Fillion’s Solo tackle the Kessel Run, his brief life in the Imperial Navy, and his early adventures as a smuggler, so get ready to delve into some much talked about, yet never explored, details of young Solo’s history.

Additionally, Alan Tudyk has entered negotiations to star alongside his former co-star as Han Solo’s faithful companion, Chewbacca. Disney executives note that the ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ star is delightful to work with, so they’ve been looking for the right live-action project to attach him to since making a splash with their hit 2012 animated film. Also, despite missing the height factor, the actor already has experience flying futuristic vessels through space, so that’s a big plus.

It’s unclear whether Whedon had anything to do with his former players appearing in this Disney-distributed film, but since his massive success with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they pretty much let him do anything he wants regardless if it’s a Marvel movie or not.

What do you think of this ‘Firefly’ reunion in the Han Solo spinoff film? Will Nathan Fillion live up to the big shoes filled by Harrison Ford? Share your thoughts in the comments below or let us know how you liked this APRIL FOOL’S POST!
