When it comes to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, Disney means business. Not too long ago they announced that Michael Arndt has signed on to write ’Star Wars VII’ and now sources tell THR that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have also come on board to work on the last two films in the Disney ‘Star Wars’ trilogy.
It’s not quite certain as to what exactly the two will be doing with the films, but it is being reported that they will write ‘Episode VIII’ and ‘Episode IX’ (who writes which one or if they will both collaborate on the scripts is yet to be determined). They will also come on board to produce the films alongside Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
The news of Kinberg and Kasdan being attached to the movies seem like a great move. They both have experience writing about established characters with set histories. Kinberg wrote ‘Sherlock Homes’ starring Robert Downey Jr., as well as ‘X-Men: First Class’ and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ The addition of Kasdan seems to be a coup as he did write ‘Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.’ After all, who would understand better the franchise and bring back the glory of the first trilogy than the man who wrote the iconic characters of Luke, Hans and Leia himself, right?
Disney plans on generating a ‘Star Wars’ film every other year starting in 2015 so it’s no wonder news about ‘Episodes VII, VIII and IX’ are coming out so close together.
At the time of this posting, Disney and Lucasfilm are not commenting stating that official announcements regarding the new ‘Star Wars’ films will appear on StarWars.com. So keep checking back as we’ll keep you updated as news comes in.
In the meantime, what you do think of the Kasdan and Kinberg’s involvement in ‘Star Wars?”
