Admiral Ackbar

Bittersweet news for “Star Wars” fans as it has been revealed that Admiral Ackbar was almost set to appear in a key moment of ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ While most widely known for yelling out that “It’s a trap!” in ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,’ the character would later briefly return in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ before unceremoniously being killed off with no regard in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’ Hailed as a talented military commander, we almost got to see his tactics put in action according to “Rogue One” writer Gary Witta.

This news came as the writer recently took a question on Twitter:

While Whitta wasn’t sure exactly why he was denied use of the character, he did have the following theory:

While Raddus was a fun character to see introduced, Ackbar would have helped tie the story even further for fans of the franchise – especially after he was so quickly dispatched in “The Last Jedi.” I could completely buy into the idea that Raddus helped mold Ackbar into the admiral he is destined to be and would have loved to see that play out, even slightly, here. I think most fans can agree that he deserved to make the sacrifice that Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo ended up pulling off.

Do you think there was room to bring Ackbar back into ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’? Would you like to see Ackbar brought back in the  “Rogue One” prequel series on Disney+? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
