While ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ hasn’t hit theaters yet, director Patty Jenkins is already looking to the future. If she has anything to say about it, Gal Gadot will remain in fighting shape for quite some time to come as she has plans for both a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ and a rumored spinoff focusing on the Amazons. This film is the second DC Cinematic Universe spinoff that appears to be in the works over at Warner Bros. as we’ve been hearing about ‘The Trench’ getting their own film after the release of ‘Aquaman.’
While the creator wouldn’t reveal what her plans, she did tease:
“We actually already know the whole story to [Wonder Woman 3] and then some because there is an Amazon [spinoff] movie as well and so we already have it all mapped out. It’s just a matter of will we change our minds and when.”
That being said, Jenkins went on to caution that fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a third outing with Princess Diana. Not only will the studio need to make sure the sequel receives the same rave reviews and box office success as the first film, but the films were almost shot one after the other. This time around, both the director and actress want to work on other features before turning this into a trilogy.
“I think what we don’t want to do is do it back to back. It’s been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it’s important to give it a little rest in between. And I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes.”
As to how long we might have before the next movie starts going into pre-production? “It would not be two; I’ll tell you that much (laughs). I’m not doing that again.” Likely, this means we’ll be at least three years out if not longer.
