In 2017, Kevin Bacon had a ‘Tremors‘ pilot land on Syfy. While fans and genre sites were thrilled at the concept alike, the network decided not to pursue a full season order after seeing it. The creators of the show were “baffled” that it didn’t happen with how much support it appeared to have.
In a recent interview with Variety, Bacon shared that he still has hopes the series could happen and why he was so excited for the show in the first place:
“I have a very specific thing that happened, which was I wanted to reboot Tremors. And worked very hard on it and did a fantastic pilot with Blumhouse. Andrew Miller was the writer of it. We shot the pilot. I thought it was cool, and SYFY decided not to go forward with it. I liked that character because it was the only character I really looked at and said, ‘I wanna know where he is 25 years later.’ We left him at a certain point, he had this extraordinary thing with these worms, underground worms. He’s not a smart man, kind of a loser, but he was able to fight these worms. Now let’s see what happened to him 25 years down the line.”
The actor was asked if there could still be a streaming service or another network that could air the series, and he opened up with the sad news saying, “I don’t know the answer to that. I feel like we’ve explored the options. But, listen, you never know. Stranger things have happened.” (I wouldn’t get excited that the “stranger things” comment means that Netflix is eyeing the series.) While it is clear that Bacon is passionate about the project, it sounds like they’ve already been shopping the project around to no avail
