If you weren’t already planning to check out ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’, here is a reason you may want to– it may be Jack Black’s last movie.  He may not look it, but Black is 50 years old, and is married with two sons, with whom he wants to spend more time.  So he is walking away… for the most part.

Speaking to Balance, Black said:

“Well, I’ve got another Tenacious D record that I’d like to make.  Maybe one more movie. I’m kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement… Not so early.  I’m 50.

“I’ve been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We’ll see. I can’t really say what my next thing is because it’s too early; it’s a jinxer. I’ve got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I’m looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset.”

Well, not all the way.  He’s still open to doing some work, just nothing as grueling as what he is used to.

“I spend too much time away from home. Maybe I’ll do a TV show here in town, so I can work the 9 to 5 and then get back home.

“We’ll see. I’m not a big five-year plan kind of guy though. I don’t really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day. And if something comes up, you know, obviously if [Quentin] Tarantino comes a-knocking, I’m gonna do that movie!”

Coincidentally, Tarantino is also retiring and says he only has one more movie to make, which may or may not be a ‘Star Trek’ picture.  As Jack put it, “Who the hell knows?”  He then added:

“Maybe I’m going to pull a Tarantino and say, ‘Guys. I’ve done 99 movies. I’m going to do one more. Gonna go out on top!’”

Black first gained notice for his two-man comedic rock band, Tenacious D, with Kyle Gass.  After Black made appearances on the HBO sketch comedy series ‘Mr. Show with Bob and David’ (starring Bob Odenkirk and David Cross), ‘Tenacious D’ received their own comedy series on HBO.  From there, he skyrocketed to fame in movies like ‘School of Rock’, ‘King Kong’, and ‘High Fidelity’, and as the voice of Po in the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ franchise.  Most recently, he has starred in family-friendly fare such as the ‘Goosebumps’ films, ‘The House with a Clock in its Walls’, and of course, ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’.  He has also gotten into posting gaming videos on Youtube.

Tenacious D launched their Post-Apocalypto Tour last October and wrapped its US leg in October, but the European leg will kick off in February.  After that?  We’ll see.

But you can catch one of Black’s last (?) acting performances in ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ which opens this weekend.
