Today on YouTube, Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first official trailer for ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife.’ Fans have been eager to check out what director Jason Reitman has planned for the return to the world of the original ‘Ghostbusters,’ and this first look appears to have Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard be the starring characters in the film.

Well, outside of the return of the original surviving Ghostbusters, that is. It has been hinted that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson would somehow have a relationship with the family, but what that is has remained a mystery and continues to be so through this sneak peek.

The upcoming movie is reported to include unused footage from the original two films, and how that will play into the story is also unknown. We don’t have much to go on so far, but this first look has me excited about the potential of the movie. I’m not going to go into the film expecting it to fully recapture the magic of the first one as I suspect audiences who watch the movie will go in with this expectation may be let down.

This movie is clearly targeted at fans of the original and is trying to forget that Paul Feig’s reboot of the franchise never happened.
