Ghostbusters

We know that Jason Reitman’s new ‘Ghostbusters‘ movie will serve as a third film in the original franchise, but it has been hard to find out any casting news for it so far. All we know so far is that the movie is scheduled to have a release date in Summer of 2020 and the first teaser is indicating that we’ll also see the Ecto-1 back in use. While we haven’t learned that any of the original Ghostbusters will be reprising their roles here, a new rumor is indicating that a mostly teenage cast will be included in the film.

If Jason’s father Ivan has any sway from directing the first two films ,it is likely we’ll see at least one of the original surviving actors appear. As Bill Murray has famously shown no interest in reprising his earlier role in the movie that would mean either Dan Aykroyd or Ernie Hudson would have to be the ones to pass the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters.

With that in mind, the rumor has the main characters in the movie being a group of kids who are 12 or 13 years old. The idea would be to have two boys and two girls in the film with another report only having two children listed. This one describes the pair who sound like Ramis and Aykroyd from the first movie and the movie will follow a “family who moves back home to a small town…[and] learn[s] more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.”

As to the original stars appearing, Aykroyd responded to the teaser by saying that “If you need a tune-up, you know who to call” and Hudson made a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man reference and is likely also willing to come back to the franchise. Murray has unsurprisingly not made a public comment about the film quite yet.
