Amazon’s series adaptation of Robert Jordan’s ‘Wheel of Time’ book series has added four new cast members: Álvaro Morte as Logain, Hammad Animashaun as Loial, Alexandre Willaume as Thom Merrilin, and Johann Myers as Padan Fain. Morte, Animashaun, and Willaume are set to recur, while Myers is only set to appear in one episode, although he may return.
Rosamund Pike stars on ‘Wheel of Time’ as Moiraine and also serves as a producer. The cast also includes Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al’Vere, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon, Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran, Michael McElhatton as Tam al’Thor, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, and Josha Stradowski as Rand Al’Thor.
Produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it. The story follows Moiraine (Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.
‘Wheel of Time’ was created by Rafe Judkins (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’) who also acts as showrunner. Uta Briesewitz directed the first two episodes and will also act as an executive producer. The show hails from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios.
Morte may best be recognized as El Profesor from the hit Netflix series ‘La Casa de Papel’ (a.k.a. ‘Money Heist’). He also appeared in the Netflix original movie ‘Mirage’. He will next be seen in the Hulu series ‘The Head’.
Animashaun is mainly known for his work on the stage. He can be seen in the live version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and National Theatre Live’s productions of ‘Amadeus’ and ‘Three Penny Opera’. He appeared in the film ‘How to Build a Girl’, and on the BBC mockumentary ‘Pls Like’.
Willaume will also appear on Hulu’s ‘The Head’. He has appeared in the movies ‘Tomb Raider’, and ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets‘.
Myers appeared in ‘The Lost City of Z’, and co-starred on the TV series ‘Snatch’.
Amazon has not yet announced when ‘Wheel of Time’ will arrive.
