Game Of Thrones : Kit Harrington Reveals What Jon Snow Was Thinking Before Killing Daenerys

Love or hate ‘Game of Thrones,’ it is hard to deny the social and cultural impact of the hit series by HBO. Most fans couldn’t get enough of the show and with what felt like a rushed final season, that left many questions. So many questions!

While we’ll have to wait another couple of lifetimes for George R.R. Martin‘s masterpiece to be released in novel form (and hopefully include a more satisfying conclusion than the series), we can at least get some insight as to what the characters were thinking during those final episodes thanks to a making-of documentary for the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale titled “Duty is the Death of Love”

Now some of the biggest questions fans have been experiencing are getting answered. One of those is how exactly Jon Snow ended up taking the life of Daenerys and what was going through his mind when it happened.

According to Kit Harington who played Snow for 8 seasons:

“He doesn’t know he’s going to betray her until right at the end. In Jon’s head, it’s a number of [reasons: Dany] doesn’t factor in anyone else’s decisions, and it also means [Dany] is going to kill my sisters, so it becomes [my] family vs. her.”

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. While Snow was actively chasing his love and a better life, his duty was always to the realm. Part of Jon’s very character is built on honor and loyalty to The Seven Kingdoms, something his adoptive father Eddard Stark had drilled into him since birth. Add onto that, his love for his family and the fact that they’ve all finally accepted him as a Stark, it just seemed like a no brainer that if he felt Dany was going to slay his sisters that there would only be one option in his mind.

As many of the complaints about Dany were more related to how quickly she gave in to her Targaryen nature at the end, I’m not sure if this will alleviate any of the frustrations felt by audiences. Still, it is great to have any additional insight into our fan-favorite characters.

Do you agree with Harington’s assessment of what was going through Jon Snow’s mind before taking the life of Daenerys? Is there any part of ‘Game of Thrones’ you’d like to see explained in greater detail by the show’s creators or cast? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
