Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ is set to adapt Andrzej Sapkowski‘s cult-classic novels and novellas and now we’re getting an idea of how they’ll pace the first season. Most of ‘The Witcher’ details have come from showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich who has sold us all on wanting to check out the series, but this particular tidbit is from executive producer Tomek Bagiński. Bagiński shared in a recent interview with Comic Book that many of the tales that weave together to tell the Season 1 narrative are from the short story collection “The Last Wish,’ but they wouldn’t be using everything from it.
That’s because there just wasn’t enough room!
“Actually the books were a lot more source material than we could fit into eight episodes. So we have to really be very, very careful with choosing which stories we want to tell. And Lauren [S. Hissrich, showrunner,] did a really great job. Not only choosing the right stories to tell the story of Geralt, but also by giving some background both to Yennefer and to Ciri. Because for us, the goal was always tell a bigger story. A bigger story comes up first with the saga, and the saga there is not only about Geralt and his friends, but it’s also about Yennefer, it’s also about Ciri, and we knew that we have to build those characters earlier.”
