Nightwing
DC Universe

Viewers of ‘Titans’ have finally gotten a first glimpse of Brenton Thwaites suited up in action as Nightwing.  The tease came at the end of this week’s new episode, “Faux Hawk,” in a trailer for next week’s episode, the season finale, which is appropriately entitled “Nightwing.”

The Titans are headed for their final (?) confrontation with Deathstroke (Esai Morales) but in order to balance the odds, they need their errant leader, and he’s back and better than ever.

Check out the trailer for “Nightwing” below:

The trailer features the ominous message that “A Titan will fall.  Another will rise.”  Hopefully, this is symbolic, as Dick’s Robin identity officially dies, and he rises again as Nightwing.  But if that isn’t the case and someone actually dies, here’s hoping it’s Hawk.  But place your bets.

The suit itself was revealed at a special intimate press gathering, attended by executive producer/showrunner Greg Walker and specialty costume designer Laura Jean Shannon.  The Nightwing suit was unveiled and displayed alongside those worn by Conor Leslie (Wonder Girl), Minka Kelly (Dove), Alan Ritchson (Hawk), Morales (Deathstroke), Chelsea T. Zhang (Ravager), Drew Van Acker (Aqualad), and Curran Walters (Robin II).  All of the costumes were played by Shannon, and constructed by Creative Character Engineering.

Though ‘Batman & Robin’ came close, this marks the first time that Dick Grayson has been depicted as Nightwing in live-action.

Thwaites previously discussed his new suit, saying:

“It’s easier to move in, it’s more flexible, it’s more imposing, and I think that adds to the kind of the feeling that I have when I put it on, which transforms to my character, which is assuming his confidence, and leadership, and strengths. It feels imposing, and that’s all I could ask for from a suit.

“I find the Nightwing costume is easier to get into character, for sure. The Robin one, maybe because there was so many pieces, so many elements of it, you kind of get covered up too much emotionally. I don’t know if that’s … Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe we should try and analyze this, but the Nightwing costume, although it does cover me up, it feels quite revealing, and I think that’s a good thing for Dick Grayson in that point of the story is that he’s found who he is and he’s revealing himself to people.”

The season finale of ‘Titans’ will be released this coming Friday (a.k.a. Black Friday).  Are you excited that Dick will finally adopt the identity of Nightwing?
