V Wars: Ian Somerhalder Goes From Vampire To Hunter In The First Trailer
Netflix

Ian Somerhalder spent eight seasons as blood-sucker Damon Salvatore on The CW’s ‘The Vampire Diaries’, but now the tables have turned.  Somerhalder heads up the cast of Netflix’s ‘V Wars’, as Dr. Luther Swann, a scientist faced with a world where a mysterious disease is transforming people into blood-craving vampires.

“[Swann] enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend [Michael Fayne, played by Adrian Holmes] into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these ‘vampires.’ Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.”

‘V Wars’ is based on the comic book series of the same name by Jonathan Maberry.  Adapted for television by William Laurin and Glenn Davis, who also act as showrunners, this new supernatural thriller co-stars Peter Outerbridge as Calix Niklos, Laura Vandervoort as Mila Dubov, Kyle Breitkopf as Dezs, Jacky Lai as Kaylee Vo, and Kimberly-Sue Murray as Danika.

Though she doesn’t appear to be part of the main cast, Somerhalder’s real-life wife Nikki Reed can also be seen in the new trailer, portraying a character named Rachel.  (Guess since she’s not a regular cast member, things aren’t going to go her way.)

‘V-Wars’ wrapped principal filming last October, so expect a lot of great visuals due to the lengthy post-production process.  Based just on this clip, it looks like ‘V Wars’ has a more polished look than other cable and streaming monster shows.  Hopefully, the overall project will measure up.

The first season consists of ten episodes, which will be released on Netflix on December 5.  Too late for Halloween, but true horror fans don’t need just one month to enjoy frightful entertainment.
