Patrick Wilson played Daniel Dreiber, the hero Nite Owl, in the 2009 film ‘Watchmen‘ and is now sharing his candid opinion of Damon Lindelof‘s take on the franchise. Wilson has run the gambit for genre films, but from previous interviews, it has always been clear that he was passionate about his time working on Zack Snyder’s film. A self-proclaimed fan of not just the film but the graphic novel as well gave Wilson a unique perspective of what Lindelof has done and the short version of his opinion? He is absolutely “loving it!”
When asked if he had been keeping up with the new series, Wilson said:
“I have! When the guy comes on, and his name’s Judd, I’m like, ‘Well, he’s not long for this world.’ (Laughs.) Unfortunately, when you know the score like I do, you’re like, ‘Okay, poor Judd is about to die.’ I’m loving it; I’ve seen every episode. Of course, I was curious because I had such reverence and love not only for the graphic novel and film but the experience of making the movie.”
It isn’t just his enjoyment for the source material and the new interpretation that is keeping Wilson tuning in each week. The actor knows quite a few members of the new cast as well:
“The friends of mine in that cast are some of the greatest people I’ve worked with. I have such a warm feeling for Watchmen. So, I was all keyed up to watch it, and then, in one of those trailers, I saw Archie, my ship, as I call it. It was not drawn for me, but I take ownership… (Laughs.) I thought, ‘Oh my God, who’s flying that thing?’ I just love watching Jean. Obviously, I did Fargo with Jean, but another one of my favorite little movies that I did was Barry Munday, and Jean played my mom. I love her, and I thought she was fantastic last week. I can’t wait to watch her and Regina (King) go toe-to-toe. It’s great.”
Honestly, I hope Wilson continues to give commentary on what he thinks about the series as it moves forward. His character won’t likely be appearing in the series, but Wilson has previously stated that he would be open to reprising the role of Nite Owl for the HBO series which could be a fun cameo to see happen.
