Scoob
Warner Brothers

Zoinks!  Get your first sample of Will Forte as the voice of Shaggy in the premiere trailer for ‘Scoob!’ a new 3D animated movie that depicts the first meetings between Shaggy and Scooby, and the rest of the gang.  Fittingly, Fred, Daphne, and Velma show up on Halloween.  (Dig the costumes!)

Forte’s voice may take some getting used to.  I’m not sure why they felt the need to replace Matthew Lillard, and the rest of the TV cast.  Sure it works (sometimes) to cast celebrity voices for some animated movies, but ‘Scooby-Doo’ is a beloved property by itself and the characters are better known than some of the celebrities they hired to voice them– in this case, Gina Rodriguez as Velma, Zac Efron as Fred, and Amanda Seyfried as Daphne.  Although in this clip, they are shown more as kids, so that’s Iain Armitage you hear as young Shaggy, with Ariana Greenblatt as young Velma, Pierce Gagnon as young Fred, and Mckenna Grace as young Daphne.  Speaking of voices, it looks as though in ‘Scoob!’ Scooby can full-on talk, in full sentences.  That may also take some getting used to.

This film will also feature other Hanna Barbera characters, like the despicable Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs), and Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg) and Dyno-Mutt (Ken Jeong).  They don’t appear in the trailer, but there are glimpses of two aircraft that certainly call these characters to mind.

‘Scoob!’ will also include appearances by Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman, and Kiersy Clemons as Teen Angel DeeDee Sykes.

‘Scoob!’ was directed by Tony Cervone, with a script by Kelly Fremon Craig from a story by Matt Lieberman.  Cervone previously helmed ‘Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery’, and ‘Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo’, and worked as a producer of ‘Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated’, ‘Big Top Scooby-Doo!’, ‘Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire’, ‘Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur’, and ‘Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare’, as well as ‘Wacky Races Forever’, which featured Dick Dastardly.

‘Scoob!’ will beam down to theaters on May 15, 2020, or as the trailer says “Rummer 2020.”
