Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts,” Netflix said. “But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

Henry Cavill stars as Geralt, the titular Witcher, who battles monsters for the right price, but finds himself almost as alienated as the creatures he slays.  Freya Allan co-stars as Ciri, the princess, and Anya Chalotra plays the sorceress, Yennefer.  The cast also includes Joey Batey as Jaskier, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as Eist, Adam Levy as Mousesack, Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe, Lars Mikkelsen as Stregobor, Maciej Musial as Sir Lazlo, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte as Dara, Anna Shaffer as Triss, Amit Shah as Torque, and Therica Wilson-Read as Sabrina.

In September, Netflix’s Netherlands Twitter account accidentally “revealed” that ‘The Witcher’ would arrive on December 17th, which was premature.  But now that the date of Dec. 20 has been announced, the first leak was only a few days shy.

The TV series is based on the novels and short stories of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.  The show was developed by Lauren Schmidt (‘Daredevil’) who acts as showrunner and executive producer.  The first season will consist of eight episodes.
