Warner Bros. and developer NetherRealm Studios have confirmed that classic ‘Mortal Kombat’ series character Reptile will be returning to the roster of ‘Mortal Kombat X.’

Announced in a report by IGN, the reveal trailer shows a rather humorous battle between Reptile and Kung Lao that brutally escalates just as violently as any ‘Mortal Kombat’ battle should. From the looks of it, many of Reptile’s signature moves have returned, such as his acid spit/projectiles and his ability to cloak himself from sight.

Reptile initially started life as an Easter Egg character in previous ‘Mortal Kombat’ titles with his first appearance being in the first ‘Mortal Kombat’. Ever since then, he has been something of a mainstay character of the series having appeared in over ten entries, first as a palette swap of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and then later as a full-fledged reptilian creature.

‘Mortal Kombat X’ is the newest entry in the long running fighting game franchise, which is known primarily for its over-the-top violence. Being the tenth entry in the series, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ pushes the series’ narrative into its next generation, taking place first at the end of 2011’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ and then 25 years into the future.

While ‘Mortal Kombat X’ takes place much later down the road in the series’ timeline, it still features classic characters albeit older versions of them, such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Quan-Chi, Kano, Kitana and Kung Lao.

In terms of gameplay, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ sees various changes from 2011’s ‘Mortal Kombat’. The first difference is the return of the style system that was featured in 2002’s ‘Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance’, which gives characters access to three different fighting styles in mid-battle. Another new feature is the addition of environmental interaction, where players can use parts of the environment as weapons to aid them in battle.

‘Mortal Kombat’ will be releasing for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and Windows PC on April 14.
