Gen:LOCK'Gets A Second Season Order But Is Migrating Over To HBO Max
Rooster Teeth

The Michael B. Jordan-fronted animated sci-fi series ‘Gen:LOCK’ has been renewed for a second season, but it will be moving into a new home.  The series, which released its first season on Rooster Teeth, is moving over to the larger HBO Max streaming service.  Both outlets are owned by WarnerMedia.  Like fellow smaller streaming service, DC Universe, the launch of the larger HBO Max seems to cast doubt on the future of this smaller niche service.  That’s not entirely bad, at least not for subscribers.  It would make the programming available to a wider audience and without having to subscribe to several different services.  DC Universe’s ‘Doom Patrol’ has already been announced as being released simultaneously on DC Universe and HBO Next.

However, subscribers to Rooster Teeth will have access to the second season of ‘Gen:LOCK’ 90 days after it is released on HBO Max.

HBO Max’s senior vice president original animation, Billy Wee stated:

“We are proud to bring gen:LOCK’s bold vision, inventive style, and extraordinary cast to HBO Max, and to build on the success that our partners at Rooster Teeth and Outlier Society have crafted so skillfully.”

Rooster Teeth co-founder and Chief Content Officer, Matt Hullum added:

“We’re beyond excited to be producing a second season of gen:LOCK for HBO Max.  Billy Wee and the team at HBO Max have been incredibly supportive in the development process, and we’re thrilled to be working closely with them on this project. We were blown away by the response to the first season of this show, both by the Rooster Teeth community and the Adult Swim audience, and cannot wait to bring it to more fans of action, sci-fi, and mecha animation.”

Jordan, who voices the lead character, Julian Chase, serves as executive producer through his Outlier Society, along with his partner Alana Mayo, and Rooster Teeth’s Matt Hullum and Ryan P. Hall.  The series is produced by Rooster Teeth’s animation studio.  Unlike a lot of existing shows on streaming, ‘Gen:Lock’ was not released all at once, but was rolled out an episode a week, similarly to those on DC Universe.

In addition to Jordan, the voice cast includes Dakota Fanning, Golshifteh Farahani, Maisie Williams, Kōichi Yamadera, Asia Kate Dillon, Blaine Gibson, Gray Haddock, Miles Luna, Chad James, Monica Rial, and David Tennant.

It has not yet been announced when Season 2 will arrive, but HBO Max is set to launch in the spring of 2020.
