The Trailer For The Grudge Reboot "Will Never Let Go"

We’ve known for a few years that Sony Pictures Entertainment was going to reboot ‘The Grudge’ and now they’ve released the first trailer for the upcoming film. Even though we knew it was coming, the timing seems a bit off with Netflix having revealed that they’re turning ‘Ju-On: The Grudge’ into an ongoing television series just a few months back. When the original American version of ‘The Grudge’ was released back in 2004, it quickly became a cult classic and ushered in a new error of Japanese horror adaptations.

I’m kind of thinking this new take has the potential to do the same. You can check out the trailer for the reboot of ‘The Grudge’ below:

I’m usually quite vocal about my disdain of reboots. You would think with two happening for ‘The Grudge’ right now that I’d be taking every word here to point out every flaw that you can see. While the trailer is by no means perfect, I will admit that it looks fun from someone who enjoyed both the original Japanese and American films that this reboot is based on. I should also point out that the brief phone call that we overheard sounded, familiar.

The studio hasn’t released an in-depth trailer, but most of us already know what to expect here. What they have shared is:

Producer Sam Raimi brings us a twisted new take of the horror classic. Directed by Nicolas Pesce, THE GRUDGE stars Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin with Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver. With a screenplay by Nicolas Pesce and a story by Nicolas Pesce and Jeff Buhler, THE GRUDGE is based on the film “Ju-On: The Grudge” written & directed by Takashi Shimizu. THE GRUDGE is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise and is executive produced by Nathan Kahane, Erin Westerman, Brady Fujikawa, Andrew Pfeffer, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Powers Middleton and Schuyler Weiss.

Overall, there is some great talent here, and with Sam Raimi‘s involvement alone, I’m willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.
