The first image showing off the cast ‘Pixels‘ has been released and we’ve also got news on what forms the aliens will take in the film! Above you can see the first shot of Michelle Monaghan, Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, and the amazing Peter Dinklage in character and uniform as they clearly preparing to deal with the alien menace head on. Honestly I can’t help but look at that picture without cracking up at Dinklage’s hair. While I’m not sure exactly why they are all in uniform, or who had time to make them with the end of the world by alien invasion at hand, it seems like a fitting style for a group of heroes who are mentally stuck in the 80s.

One of the big questions from those who have seen the short film that the movie is based off of is what enemies will our heroes fight? There were a lot of potential villains in the initial film and getting the rights to every single on of them was highly unlikely. However, we do have a list of classic 8-bit characters that we now know will actually lend their likenesses to the film!

  • Atari® Interactive: (Asteroids®, Breakout®, Centipede® and Missile Command®)
  • Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Frogger)
  • BANDAI NAMCO Games Inc. (PAC-MAN, Galaga, and Dig Dug)
  • Nintendo (Donkey Kong)
  • Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (Q*bert)
  • Taito Corporation (Space Invaders)
  • Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (Joust, Defender, Robotron and Wizard of Wor)

If you haven’t seen the short film yet you’ll want to check out this amazing piece of retro awesomeness below!

That really never gets old. I only hope a full feature film about fighting off the aliens can live up to the fun factor you just had a chance to watch.

So which game characters are you most looking forward to seeing on the big screen?

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team’s unique weapons specialist.

‘Pixels’ will be released on May 15, 2015
