It’s the end of an era as Brandon Routh has filmed his last scene for ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, the series that has, from the start, been the dark horse of The CW’s lineup of DC Comics-inspired shows.  Routh was one of the original cast members, portraying scientist Ray Palmer, a.k.a. The Atom.  But in August, Routh announced that he, along with his real-life wife Courtney Ford (who portrays Norah Darhk) were exiting the show.  Routh departs after five seasons.  He originated the role of Ray Palmer on ‘The Flash’ during its third season.

Due to its underdog status (at least when it comes to ratings), in recent seasons, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ has adopted an “anything goes” attitude, telling for off-beat and comical adventures.  That scrappy attitude has distinguished the show among its more serious CW sibling shows.

After filming his last scene, Routh posted an open letter on Instagram, thanking his fellow cast members and crew for the experience.

Fans will get an extra treat from Routh before his departure.  He will also portray the ‘Kingdom Come’ Superman during this winter’s massive “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.  This is a nod to Routh having portrayed the Man of Steel in the 2006 film ‘Superman Returns’.

Routh will appear in the live-action film ‘Anastasia’.  He hasn’t announced any additional upcoming projects.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is expected to return for its fifth season in January of 2020.

Are you sad to see Routh leave?
