Kit Harington has basically confirmed that he is playing the Black Knight in Marvel Studios’ ‘Eternals’.  He was introduced as a member of the cast at the D23 Expo in August, and it was announced that he was playing Dane Whitman, but it was not confirmed that Whitman would appear as his alter ego, the Black Knight.

Harington was a guest at the Nutanix NEXT Conference in Copenhagen, where he took a moment to address his upcoming role:

“Now I’m going with a Marvel movie [in The Eternals]. I’m going on to play a superhero, which is cool. I don’t know what I can say about it, I’m scared to sort of even mention it… I’m trying to choose things as far away from Jon Snow as possible, but I’m playing a superhero and he’s got a sword.”

As Harington mentioned, he just wrapped eight seasons of playing Jon Snow on ‘Game of Thrones’, and although he stated that he wanted to take on a role as “far away from Jon Snow as possible,” he has traded in one sword-slinger for another.

Harington flat out stated that he was playing a “superhero” in ‘Eternals’ and that he had a sword, so clearly his Dane Whitman isn’t just a civilian supporting character.  The Black Knight is not one of the Eternals, but he was romantically involved with one of them, Sersi played by Gemma Chan in the movie version.

Filming on ‘Eternals’ began in July, even though the full cast wasn’t confirmed until August.  Chloé Zhao is directing based on a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.

The ensemble cast also includes Salma Hayek as “the wise and spiritual leader Ajak”; Brian Tyree Henry as inventor Phastos; Angelina Jolie as the warrior Thena; Barry Keoghan as the sinister Druig; Don Lee as Gilgamesh the Forgotten One; Richard Madden as the dashing Ikaris; Lia McHugh as “the eternally young, old-soul Sprite”; Kumail Nanjiani as the showy Kingo; and Lauren Ridloff, as the super-fast Makkari, who will be the first deaf Marvel Cinematic superhero.  One of the male characters is gay, married and has a family.

‘Eternals’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 6, 2020.
