At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2019 we learned that Salma Hayek (‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’) was one of the actors set to join Marvel’s ‘Eternals and now the actress is sharing her thoughts on joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She took to Instagram to let her English and Spanish speaking fans in on how she felt about the casting news! Directed by Chloé Zhao, we know that Hayek is joining a cast which also includes Angelina Jolie, Brian Tyree Henry, Don Lee, Richard Madden, Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, and Lauren Ridloff in the leading roles.

As Ajak, Hayek will play a gender-swapped version of the leader of the Eternals. In the comics, we know that the character was born in Siberia over a millennia ago though rumors are placing this new set of Eternals as an alien race. Either way, the Eternals were created as experiments by the Celestials, which will likely be a plot point that remains. Mainly because outside of the cosmic energy that Eternals have access to we know that Ajak, in particular, could communicate with the Celestials who we’ve seen wielding Infinity Stones in the MCU.

According to Hayek:

Previously, during the ‘Eternals’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con, we know that Hayek shared that:

“I take my inspiration from our leader Chloé. It takes a strong woman to do a movie like this. The way she approaches leadership as a strong woman, she sees them as a family. There’s a lot of mother instincts in the Eternals…I feel honored to be part of a movie which will show people who aren’t represented (on screen).”

Are you looking forward to seeing the ‘Eternals’ introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Do you feel that this race of powered beings will already be on Earth or will they be introduced as being on another planet? If they are on Earth, are you at all surprised that they didn’t get involved when Thanos arrived? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!

‘Eternals’ is scheduled to open on November 6, 2020.
