For All Mankind

Ronald D. Moore is returning to science fiction with ‘For All Mankind’ on Apple TV.  In the series, we’re going to see what happened if the US ended up losing the space race to Russia. The show stars Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Wrenn Schmidt, Shantel VanSanten, Sarah Jones, and Jodi Balfour. It also has Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi serving as executive producers.

While some might not enjoy seeing the United Stated portrayed in a negative light, I love the idea of seeing NASA shown off as an influential and motivational agency again. These days it isn’t the first thing you think of that is helping push forward the hopes, dreams, and future of humanity.

As you can see here, after losing the space race, the new goal is to be the first nation to put a woman on the moon.

As to why Moore went with more of a modern-day setting for this outing in science fiction opposed to something further in the future like ‘Battlestar Galactica’ or “Star Trek” he previously explained:

“It was a couple of things. One was just my own personal interest in and passion for the subject. I grew up with the Apollo program, as a kid, and it was really the catalyst for inspiring me to become interested in science fiction, overall. So, it was very important, in my personal life. And when I was growing up, watching the space program in the ‘70s, I thought it was gonna go places. I thought it was gonna go much bigger than it did. I had dreams of moon bases and colonization, and all kinds of things that never came to pass. The idea of doing the history that I never got to see was personally really exciting and interesting to me.”
