A ‘Supernatural’ alumnus is returning to The CW. Osric Chau, who played the Winchesters’ psychic friend, Kevin Tran, is set to recur as Ryan Choi, a physics professor at Ivy Town University, who will suit up as the new Atom, on the Arrowverse shows. Thought it wasn’t specified, he will likely be appearing on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and will debut during the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. Courtesy of Deadline:
“He is just a normal guy who comes to learn that he has a pivotal role to play in the coming crisis. The buzz is that he will be suiting up and shrinking down as the new Atom considering Choi takes that torch from Ray Palmer in the comics.“
In the comics, Ryan Choi debuted in ‘DCU: Brave New World’ #1 in 2006. His character has been referenced in the Arrowverse but has never appeared in the flesh. (He built the super suit that Nora West-Allen gave to Barry, for starters.) His introduction comes as Brandon Routh is set to exit ‘Legends of Tomorrow’. Routh portrays Ray Palmer, the Silver Age Atom, so it looks as though the shows are replacing one Atom with another. One amusing subplot in Choi’s comic exploits was the time he had a brief romantic fling with the towering Giganta.
Chau is best known for playing recurring supporting character Kevin Tran on ‘Supernatural’, but he has since co-starred on the BBC America series ‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’ and Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Demon X’.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” will air on Sunday, Dec. 8th episode of ‘Supergirl’ at 8 pm EST (special time), Monday, Dec. 9th on ‘Batwoman’ (special night), and Tuesday, Dec. 10 on ‘The Flash’. It will conclude on ‘Arrow’ on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 8pm (special time), ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 9 pm (special episode).
Before that, however, the premiere episode of ‘Batwoman’, and the first episode of ‘Supergirl’ Season 5 will air on Sunday, October 6. ‘The Flash’ returns for its sixth season at 8 pm on Tuesday, October 8. ‘Arrow’ will return for its eighth and final season on Tuesday, October 15.
