'The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Great news for fans of Netflix’s ‘The Umbrella Academy’: production has begun on the second season, and the show’s Twitter account was used to share some behind the scenes images of the cast as they get back to work.  Or is that back to school?

A few of the photos are just of the cast goofing off, but there are a few of the actors back in costume.  And is it me, or has #5 grown about five inches?  Those darn teens and their puberty!  Technically, this character is supposed to be immortal and stuck at the same age, so they’ll have to come up with some tricks to maintain that illusion in further episodes.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ is based on the Dark Horse comic books by writer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá.  They chronicle the exploits of a group of young superbeings who were all miraculously born on the same day to women who were not previously pregnant.  Eccentric millionaire Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) managed to adopt seven of them, who he trained to become crime fighters.  The TV version was created by Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater.

The first season of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ starred Tom Hopper as Luther/#1/Spaceboy, David Castañeda as Diego/#2/The Kraken, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison/#3/The Rumor, Robert Sheehan as Klaus/#4/The Séance, Aidan Gallagher as #5/The Boy, Justin H. Min as Ben/#6/The Horror, and Ellen Page as Vanya/#7/The White Violin, as well as Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, John Magaro, and Adam Godley, with Sheila McCarthy, Jordan Claire Robbins, and Kate Walsh.  It was recently announced that the show had added new cast members Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, and Marin Ireland for the third series.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ launched earlier this year and was renewed for a second season shortly after it premiered.  Since production on Season 2 has now begun, rest assured that this hit will return sometime next year.
