One of the most prolific writers working now, James Patterson, is about to have one of his action novels, ‘Toys’ turned into a TV series on Quibi.  Melinda Hsu Taylor, who recently adapted ‘Nancy Drew’ for The CW, is working on this project.  The project hails from Peter Lenkov’s 101st Street Entertainment, James Patterson Entertainment, and CBS TV Studios, where Lenkov has an overall production deal.  Quibi is expected to launch in April of next year and among the studios investing are The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, WarnerMedia, Liberty Global, and Alibaba Group.  Quibi is aimed at younger viewers and will offer entertainment is smaller “quick bites” to be viewed on cell phones while viewers are “on the go.”

‘Toys’, published in 2011, received comparisons to the ‘Jason Bourne’ and ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie franchises, with a male protagonist, but it appears the TV show will have a female lead.

Here is the book’s description:

Hays Baker and his wife Lizbeth possess super-human strength, extraordinary intelligence, stunning looks, a sex life to die for, and two beautiful children. Of course, they do–they’re Elites, endowed at birth with the very best that the world can offer. The only problem in their perfect world: humans and their toys!

The one with the most toys–dies

The top operative for the Agency of Change, Hays has just won the fiercest battle of his career. He has been praised by the President, and is a national hero. But before he can savor his triumph, he receives an unbelievable shock that overturns everything he thought was true. Suddenly Hays is on the other side of the gun, forced to leave his perfect family and fight for his life.

Now a hunted fugitive, Hays is thrown into a life he never dreamed possible–fighting to save humans everywhere from extinction. He enlists all of his training to uncover the truth that will save millions of lives–maybe even his own.

As for the TV show:

‘Toys’ is set in the near future. When generations of DNA enhancements have resulted in a class conflict between genetic Elites and unaltered Basics, action-adventure ‘Toys’ follows the journey of a young woman who finds herself, and her heart, caught between the two worlds.

Hsu Taylor will executive producer.  She served the same role on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for four years, and more recently on FOX’s ‘The Gifted’, which was also about the struggle between people with superpowers and those without.

Check back for updates as they arrive.
