With Halloween approaching, General Mills has rolled out the Monster Cereals once again– Boo Berry, Count Chocula, and Franken Berry.  This year, the colorful trio is teaming up with another pack of spooky favorites, the Addams Family, who are set to star in their own new animated movie.  Kids (of all ages) can download free stencils that will allow them to carve jack o’ lanterns of these characters.

General Mills planner of Brand Experience, Sarah McCullough stated:

“With The Addams Family movie coming out in October, we wanted to partner because of the timeliness with Halloween.  We thought it would be a fun idea to offer stencils during a time when people are carving pumpkins. We created them so people can interact with our characters and the ones from The Addams Family.  It’s exciting because this is the first time Monster Cereals has partnered with a movie.”

Last year, it was announced that General Mills was open to pitches to turn the cereal Monsters into movies, but there hasn’t been any further news of that.

The new ‘Addams Family’ movie hails from MGM, with Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon (‘Sausage Party’) directing.  Oscar Isaac provides the voice of patriarch Gomez, with Charlize Theron as his beloved Morticia.  Nick Kroll will voice Uncle Fester, with the legendary Bette Midler as Grandmama.  Wednesday will be portrayed by Chloë Grace Moretz, with Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley.  They will be joined by Academy Award-winner Allison Janney as their nosey neighbor Margaux Needler, and Elsie Fisher, as her daughter Parker Needler.  Aimee Garcia and Scott Underwood are also part of the cast.

Count Chocula and Franken Berry Cereals were introduced by General Mills in 1971, followed by Boo Berry in 1973.  Two additional cereals have been part of the line, but didn’t last long– Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy.  In 2010, due to slow sales, the Monster Cereals were only made available around Halloween.

Cartoonist Charles Addams created ‘The Addams Family’ as a series of one-panel comic strips for ‘The New Yorker’ starting in 1937.  The kooky clan is best known for the TV series that ran from 1964-66.  It was revived as a string of live-action movies starting in 1991.

The new animated ‘Addams Family’ movie opens in theaters on October 11.  You can download 10 Monster Cereal/Addams Family pumpkin stencils at MonsterCarving.com.
