The followup to last year’s horror hit ‘Halloween’ is officially named ‘Halloween Kills’, and ’80s teen star Anthony Michael Hall has been announced as joining Jamie Lee Curtis in the cast.  Hall will play Tommy Doyle, who was one of the kids that Laurie Strode (Curtis) was babysitting in the original 1978 ‘Halloween’.  Brian Andrews played the kid in the original.  Paul Rudd played him (billed as Paul Stephen Rudd) in 1995’s ‘Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers’.  In that film, Tommy assisted Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) in stopping Myers.  (Rudd was rumored to be returning for ‘Halloween Kills’, but it seems that didn’t come together.  Rudd is currently filming ‘Ghostbusters 2020’.)

Last year’s ‘Halloween’ ignored that sequel.  In fact, it ignored every sequel and was set up as a continuation of the first movie only.  It went on to gross over $250 million worldwide, making it the most successful film in the franchise.  David Gordon Green directed that film and is returning for the sequel.  He also penned the sequel, with Danny McBride and Scott Teems.  (McBride also co-wrote last year’s entry.)  Judy Greer portrayed Karen, Laurie’s daughter, with Andi Matichak as Allyson, Karen’s daughter, and Laurie’s granddaughter.  Both are set to return for ‘Halloween Kills’.  Both James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle are expected to return as The Shape (Michael Myers).  Castle was the original Shape that terrorized Curtis in the first film.  Curtis, Green, McBride, and series creator John Carpenter are all attached as executive producers.

Do I really need to explain who Anthony Michael Hall is?  Well, just in case, he was one of the most ubiquitous teen stars of the ’80s, starring in such classics as ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’, ‘Sixteen Candles’, ‘The Breakfast Club’, and ‘Weird Science’.  Though he may not be the same headliner he once was, he has never stopped working.  Most recently, he has made appearances on ‘The Goldbergs’, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, and ‘Riverdale’, and lent his voice to ‘American Dad!’.

‘Halloween Kills’ is expected to begin filming this fall to be released in October of next year.
