The Boys

Anyone who has seen ‘The Boys’ on Amazon knows that the commentary on superheroes was over the top. From violence to gore to full-frontal nudity to sex, ‘The Boys’ got away with murder. However, for as much as we did see, there was a single scene that crossed the line which involved a solo shot of Antony Starr as Homelander.

It was even filmed but cut before being released to the public after Amazon Studios execs saw it.

So what went too far for the streaming network? Eric Kripke revealed it took place in the second episode “Cherry” on a recent Reddit AMA and that:

“There was ONE SCENE that Amazon said FUCK NO, you have to cut. I couldn’t quite understand why considering everything else we have in the show, but: Homelander, after being dressed down by Stilwell in episode 2, was standing on one of the Chrysler building Eagles. He pulled his pants down and started jerking off, mumbling “I can do whatever I want” over and over again until he climaxed all over New York City. We shot it! Oh my God, Anthony was the BEST in that scene. Amazon seemed to think it wasn’t necessary. I thought it told me something about his psyche. To be clear, they’ve been great, that may have been the ONLY fight I lost in Season 1.”

With everything they were able to show and what Kripke described, this scene didn’t feel that over the top. It also really does seem to give us more insight to who Homelander is and is just more confirmation that he isn’t the most stable of characters. While we didn’t get an exact explanation of why Amazon felt this particular scene went too far, it feels like this will be something Kripke will be asked again about in the future.

Do you feel that ‘The Boys’ should have included this scene, or would it have not added anything to Homelander’s character? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
