Idris Elba Is Open To Return Heimdall To The MCU

The death toll of ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ was not all erased when Tony Stark snapped his finders in ‘Endgame,’ as some beloved characters remained dead as they were not wiped away by Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet in the first place. Idris Elba’s Heimdall was among the first to die in ‘Infinity Die’ war, stabbed by Thanos after using the last of his magic to send the Hulk back to Earth, and as far as fans of the MCU were concerned, that would be the last time we were going to see the character.

Rumor had it that Elba wanted to move on after the 3 ‘Thor’ films and other MCU cameos he had made, and it seemed a fitting end for the powerful warrior who once guarded the Bi-Frost. However, it seems like the energy and fun injected back into the ‘Thor’ franchise by Taika Waititi may have changed the beloved actor’s mind, much like it did for franchise lead Chris Hemsworth.

During a recent conversation on ABC Radio, Elba said about whether or not he would want to return to the MCU as Heimdall:

“Of course. Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family. So you know, he essentially could be alive. I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there. The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology, And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive. Of course I would. Yes.”

Of course, since ‘Endgame’ introduced a multi-verse and Marvel has already announced the new ‘Loki’ series on Disney+ is going to focus on the adventures of the Loki who escaped with the Space Stone and created a new branch in the multi-verse by doing so, there is at least one way Heimdall could return. In that new timeline, Heimdall is just as alive and well as Loki (who coincidentally died around the same time as Heimdall in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’), and could pop up as an important character, especially if that Loki is still intent on taking over Earth and/or Asgard.

Beyond that, these are comic-book movies, and bringing someone back from the dead is not unheard of, so there will surely be many opportunities to bring back Heimdall in the near future, especially since Thor is looking to have a role in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3’ (and ‘Guardians’ director James Gunn is already working with Elba on the new ‘Suicide Squad’ film), and Taikia Waititi is working on a new ‘Thor’ film, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ which would be another great place to bring the character back if Marvel wants.

What do you think of the idea of Elba/ Heimdall returning to life in the MCU? Would it cheapen his death? Or do you love the character enough to want him back regardless? Feel free to sound off in the comments below!
