ABC Is In Active Talks To Replace 'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' With A Show About A "Brand New" Female Marvel Hero

ABC is in “active talks” to replace ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ with another Marvel series, featuring a young female character who is “brand new, mostly.”  This news comes courtesy of ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke, who told Deadline:

“I have spoken to Marvel and we are in active talks about one project in particular… something brand new, mostly.”

That makes it sound as though this project will feature an original character who only has ties to an existing Marvel comic, TV show or movie.  Or she could mean someone brand new to the small screen.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ featured the character Skye played by Chloe Bennet, who was eventually revealed to be a version of the comic book character Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake, a relatively new character in the comics, at that time.  Quake wasn’t a major character in the comics, so Bennet’s character could be described as Burke said, “something brand new, mostly.”  So this could be something like that.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that ABC had passed on a female-centric Marvel series proposed by ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s Allan Heinberg.  This new show is not that series, which was passed on completely.

Folks are already buzzing with speculation as to which character or characters could be the focus of this new show.  Have fun guessing, but some fan picks are obviously not eligible for a few reasons.  This series features a new character, at least to television, so don’t expect any of the Netflix characters to port over.  No ‘Daughters of the Dragon’ or ‘Elektra’.  Not only are they not brand new, but there’s also that year-long embargo preventing them from appearing elsewhere.

Don’t forget the ‘Spider-Man’ characters are all held by Sony, so anyone affiliated with his is off-limits.

This show will originate from Marvel Television, which isn’t directly affiliated with Marvel Studios, so it won’t be anyone from the movies, or that connects to them, so no She-Hulk.  She would require a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, a.k.a. Mark Ruffalo, who probably won’t be slumming it on an ABC show.  That also goes for Jon Favreau and Gwyneth Paltrow, who would most likely be needed for an Iron Heart/Riri Williams show.

Who does that leave?  America Chavez is one choice.  There’s also Squirrel Girl, who was included in a pilot for ‘New Warriors’, played by Milana Vayntrub.  But that pilot was never aired and the show wasn’t picked up, so the character should be free.  Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan is a strong possibility, but it sounds as though she is being saved for the big screen, plus she is somewhat connected to ‘Captain Marvel’.

Who would you like to see in a solo Marvel TV series on ABC?
