Jeremy Jordan Will Return To 'Supergirl' In 2020

Jeremy Jordan has announced that he will return as Winn Schott on the upcoming fifth season of ‘Supergirl’ after being absent for all of Season 4.  Specifically, he will appear in three episodes of the back-half of the season, after the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover this fall.  When he was last seen, Winn journeyed with Mon-El 3,000 years into the future to assist the Legion of Superheroes.

Jordan made the announcement via Instagram:

Jordan initially left ‘Supergirl’ to return to the stage in the Broadway show ‘American Son’.  That show ended in January and there were hopes that he would return for part of Season 4, but that didn’t pan out.  In addition, he appeared in the musical ‘Waitress’ and is currently starring as ’70s record producer Neil Bogart in the biopic ‘Spinning Gold’.

As showrunner Robert Rovner explained earlier this year to EW:

“We love Jeremy Jordan, we love Winn.  It looks like, in terms of our storytelling, something we’d like to do at the beginning of next season as opposed to this season. We have a lot of stories that coincided with his availability at the end of the play. We don’t want to short shrift Jeremy or the character. So, we think it’s something that’s better served in season 5.”

Presumably, the ‘Crisis’ crossover complicated things further, which is why Jordan’s return will occur early next year instead.  (Or perhaps the filming of ‘Spinning Gold’ was a factor.)

There will be a ‘Supergirl’ panel this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, so check back for any further news that may surface.

‘Supergirl’ returns for its fifth season on Sunday, October 6 at 9pm EST on The CW.
