Jeremy Renner

The first epic attack by Thanos in ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ came when The Mad Titan attacked The Avengers on Earth but that wasn’t always the case. Jeremy Renner who plays Hawkeye opened up at this year’s Ace Comic-Con about that scene and revealed it was meant to be vastly different.

According to Renner:

“We shot it, and it’s very different from what’s in the movie now. It’s a scene we re-shot because it was much more complicated [than the] scene that’s in Endgame now. There’s an attack, Thanos is in some ship or something, and a bunch of weird aliens were running around, and it was too complicated, so what they did is we shot the scene, still with the same kind of idea, but now we’re just fighting each other to commit suicide for the soul stone.

We shot that not that long ago. Six months ago. It was a tough scene… for both of us.”

While it would have been great to see more of the army which Thanos put together, it does feel a bit of a stretch that not only would these two survive against so many attacking them, but it also would have taken away from the emotional impact of the scene. Yes, this likely would have had Black Widow potentially dying in a different way but her sacrifice to allow Clint to live and to show that she finally had something to live for resonated with audiences better than a fight against aliens would have here.

Are you glad we got the Black Widow and Hawkeye scene which was in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ or would you have preferred the two trying to do battle against an alien horde? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
