Jeremy Renner Reflects On 'Avengers' Success And Why Hawkeye Wasn't In 'Infinity War'

Fans were excited when Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye returned in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, even though it was under less-than-ideal circumstances.  But it was explained that he was under house arrest in ‘Infinity War’, which is why he didn’t participate in that adventure.  (Ant-Man was also said to be under house arrest, with his exploits depicted in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’.)

But how did Renner feel about being excluded?  Not too bad, as he revealed:

“I think it ultimately had to do with the storytelling of it all.  You leave it to the Russo brothers to make those decisions… I wanted a vacation.  I had stuff to do, man. Take a break.”

In the meantime, Renner built up his resume, appearing in the acclaimed sci-fi picture ‘The Arrival’, low-budget thriller ‘Wind River’, and comedies ‘The House’ and ‘Tag’.

He also reflected on his favorite stunt he got to perform, which I believe was in the first ‘Avengers’ movie.

“It’s kind of a big stunt where I jump off, slaying a bunch of bad guys. And then I jump off this building. And then I shoot a grappling hook. Doing that was really fun, because it’s a practical thing. So I get to jump off a two-story ledge onto this mat, because I had to turn my body. A little difficult to turn, pull an arrow and not look like a complete jackass.”

After the events of ‘Endgame’, viewers may have seen the last of Clint Barton: Superhero.  It would seem that he’d retire, as will other Avengers, most likely.  But we do know that he looks to be discovering a successor, as a ‘Hawkeye’ series is reported to be in the works for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service, in which it is rumored, Barton will pass the bow and quiver to a new Hawkeye, Kate Bishop.

He can’t help but be awed by his success as a member of the ‘Avengers’ franchise.

“You’re on a Cheerios box all of a sudden.  I remember when I was a kid growing up in the ’70s, a Wheaties box, if you got on that was like, ‘Wow, you’re like a big sports star or something.’  I’m on underwear, too.”
