star trek: picard first look

We know that CBS is putting Jean-Luc Picard front and center in ‘Star Trek: Picard’ but CBS’s “Star Trek” guru Alex Kurtzman is sharing that the good Captain won’t be the only primary character in the show. Just like ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ we’ll see Picard working with a crew, and this crew will have just as much of an impact on viewers as the series’ namesake.

When asked if the formula of having a crew and going on adventures would change, Kurtzman shared:

“It’s a great and necessary question, and it’s something that has been baked into the DNA of Picard — yes, obviously Patrick, it’s Patrick — [but] we have an unbelievable cast. And you know, the thing that I loved about the Next Gen cast is that you really could have focused any episode on any of them. I would say the same about our cast now, that it’s such an incredibly brilliant group of actors [that are] given such amazing things to do. Without spoiling anything, I think that you will feel that.”

Kurtzman would go on to say that several of the characters would be strong enough to carry their own episodes meaning that we could be getting a level of development that is on par with, if not surpasses, ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation.’ Many Trekkies are, of course, wary about this as they haven’t been fans of how ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ has been changing up continuity to date. Of course, with Michael Chabon in as the showrunner that is an issue we should all hope not to have to worry about.
