Andy Muschietti in talks to direct Flash movie

Progress on the ‘Flash‘ movie had frozen as if hit by one of Captain Cold’s weapons but now things are thawing out and speeding back up. It has just been reported that Warner Bros. is currently in talks with Andy Muschietti (‘It‘,’Mama’) to direct the film and Christina Hodson (‘Bumblebee’,’Unforgettable’) to pen the script!

If Muschietti joins the production, it will be the third horror director to step into tackling a DC film after James Wan was able to deliver a solid ‘Aquaman’ movie and David Sandberg (‘Annabelle: Creation’) gave us ‘Shazam!’ It also means that Andy’s sister, Barbara Muschietti, would become a producer on the project. For Hodson, this will end up being the third script for the DC Universe that she has worked on after having tackled ‘Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ while also being attached to do the screenplay for ‘Batgirl.’

Unlike Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman, Ezra Miller is still attached to play The Flash in the upcoming film.

The film was previously meant to be directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein who had written drafts of the script. On top of that, the script which was co-written by Miller and Grant Morrison is being scrapped for this new take which they are hoping to be in pre-production in January of 2020.

The original directors were looking for a more light-hearted script while Ezra wanted something darker. While his script was rejected by the studio, it seems that he may just get his wish with Muschietti’s attachment.

There have long been rumors that a Flash movie could focus on the “Flashpoint” story and allow for a soft reboot of the DC Universe, at the very least in terms of being able to easily recast both Superman and Batman.

Are you thrilled to hear that a ‘Flash’ movie might finally be happening? Do you feel that Andy Muschietti and Christina Hodson will be the perfect creative team to bring the film to life? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
