It’s been reported that MarvelStudios is courting Salma Hayek to join the cast of ‘The Eternals’, although her potential role was not revealed.  In November, a list of characters surfaced which purportedly revealed who would appear in the movie, and included among them was Elysius, an artificial life form who commands a pack of griffins, Thena, a powerful huntress, and Sersi, who can change humans into animals.  It has long been buzzed that Angelina Jolie was playing Sersi, but that has never been confirmed, so it’s possible that she has moved on, and that Hayek is being sought to replace her.  Or– of course– Hayek could be wanted for a different role, and it’s also entirely possible that this is just an unfounded rumor.

Hayek just signed to star opposite Owen Wilson in the Amazon Studios sci-fi drama ‘Bliss’.  She has recently appeared in ‘Drunk Parents’, ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’, ‘How to be a Latin Lover’, ‘Grown-Ups’ and ‘Grown-Ups 2′, and on the TV shows ’30 Rock’ and ‘Ugly Betty’.

It was rumored that Marvel had spoken to Keanu Reeves about appearing in ‘The Eternals’, and that turned out to be true, although as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige clarified, the studio speaks to Reeves for nearly every movie on its slate, in hopes of finding the perfect role for him.  So it’s possible that Reeves will show up in ‘The Eternals’, but then again, maybe he won’t.

Among the other actors that are reportedly set to appear in this picture are ‘The Bodyguard’s Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Korean action star Ma Dong-Seok, who also uses the screen name “Don Lee.”

Chloé Zhao is directing ‘The Eternals’, with a screenplay by Matthew Firpo and Ryan Firpo.

Expect some news about this movie in two weeks at San Diego Comic-Con, where Feige has sworn he will “pull back the curtain” a bit to reveal where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed in this post-‘Avengers: Endgame’ world.

For the time being, ‘The Eternals’ is expected to begin filming this fall and may or may not be released on November 1, 2020.
