Is THIS The Name Of The Sequel To Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle?

It appears the sequel to ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ has a name– ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’.  That’s a perfectly suited title, considering that ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ took the premise of ‘Jumanji’– originally a board game– and updated it as a video game.

This news arrives as the Disney/Sony collaboration ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ is due to hit theaters in just a matter of days.  It seems that Sony wants to tack the trailer for its next potential monster hit, this ‘Jumanji’ sequel onto screenings of that sure-to-be-smash.  The name ‘The Next Level’ is listed by Alberta Film Ratings (via Heroic Hollywood), who labeled it with a G-rating.  (This is Canada, so it’ll probably be PG or PG-13 in the US.)  ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ is the highest-grossing Sony film of all time, beating all of the previous ‘Spider-Man’ movies.

Hoping to replicate the first film’s success, Sony brought back director Jake Kasdan, and writers Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg, as well as almost the entire cast, Jack Black, Kevin HartKaren GillanDwayne Johnson, and Nick Jonas as the in-game avatars, plus Ser’Darius Blain, Colin Hanks, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Alex Wolff as the real world teen players.  Rhys Darby returns as Nigel Billingsley, the NPC game guide.  New cast members include AwkwafinaDanny DeVitoDanny Glover, and Dania Ramirez.

Thanks to excellent word-of-mouth, ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ became a smash, despite opening the week after ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.  ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ continued to play strong from December into the new year.  Sony hopes to replicate that by opening ‘The Next Level’ on December 13, with ‘Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker’ opening just after, on Dec. 20.  Hopefully, ‘The Next Level’ will prove as enjoyable as ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and will have the Force to withstand the ‘Star Wars’ juggernaut.

‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ movie opens on December 13, 2019.
