Not much is known about the next installment of ‘American Horror Story’, beyond the fact that it’s subtitled ‘1984’ and the first teaser trailer hinted that this would be a tribute to slasher flicks like ‘Friday the 13th’. The only cast members that have been announced are Emma Roberts and Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, who is playing her boyfriend. It is known that Evan Peters, who has starred on every season of ‘AHS’, will not be in this one. This marks the ninth installment of this hit anthology series.
Now we know at least one more fact about ‘AHS: 1984’– it will premiere on FX on Wednesday, September 18 at 10 pm EST.
Perhaps coincidentally, the ’80s have proven to be a fertile period to inspire modern fiction. The second season of ‘Stranger Things’ was set in 1984, with the upcoming third shifting forward to 1985. And the sequel to ‘Wonder Woman’ is entitled ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ and set during that same year.
Executive producer Tim Minear previously stated:
“I will tell you nothing, except that I think it’s awesome. I think it’s gonna be really scary but a lot of fun, like it always is. And that if you have a taste for ’80s horror, you’re in for a treat.
“Generally, Ryan is ahead of the zeitgeist as opposed to following it. So what I would say is that this has been an area that Ryan has talked about since I’ve known him and it’s just a real sweet spot for him. And I think it was time for him to do it.”
Roberts appeared in last year’s installment of ‘AHS’, ‘Apocalypse’, reprising her role of Madison Montgomery from Season 3, ‘Coven’. In addition, she starred in Season 4 ‘Freakshow’, and Season 7 ‘Cult’.
Other than Peters, the only cast member who has also been in every season of ‘AHS’ is Sarah Paulson, but it has not been confirmed that she will be in Season 9. Some other familiar faces that MIGHT be back include Denis O’Hare, Kathy Bates, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, and Cheyenne Jackson.
